Over time, through various constitutional amendments, 4 more were added, making it a total of 12 Schedules today. Here is the complete blueprint of what Atul Sir will teach you: First Schedule (1st Schedule): Deals with the list of 28 States and 8 Union Territories of India, along with their territorial jurisdictions. Second Schedule (2nd Schedule): Contains provisions related to the Allowances, Privileges, and Salaries of top constitutional authorities (President of India, Governors, Speaker of Lok Sabha, Judges of the Supreme Court & High Courts, and the CAG). Atul Sir's Trick: Money always comes before the oath! Third Schedule (3rd Schedule): Contains the Forms of Oaths or Affirmations for Union Ministers, Parliament Election Candidates, MPs, Supreme Court Judges, and the CAG. Fourth Schedule (4th Schedule): Details the allocation of seats in the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) to various States and Union Territories. Fifth Schedule (5th Schedule): Deals with the administration and control of Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes (STs) across India (excluding the 4 states mentioned in the 6th schedule). Sixth Schedule (6th Schedule): Special provisions for the administration of tribal areas in the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram (Remember the acronym: AMTM). Seventh Schedule (7th Schedule): Defines the exact division of powers between the Union and the States. It categorizes them into three lists: Union List (Originally 97, now 100 subjects) State List (Originally 66, now 61 subjects) Concurrent List (Originally 47, now 52 subjects) Eighth Schedule (8th Schedule): Lists the 22 official languages recognized by the Constitution. (Started with 14 languages; Sindhi, Konkani, Manipuri, Nepali, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, and Santhali were added via the 21st, 71st, and 92nd Amendments). Ninth Schedule (9th Schedule): Deals with state acts and regulations related to land reforms and the abolition of the zamindari system. (Added by the First Constitutional Amendment Act, 1951). Tenth Schedule (10th Schedule): The famous Anti-Defection Law. It contains provisions for the disqualification of Members of Parliament and State Legislatures on the grounds of defection. (Added by the 52nd Amendment Act, 1985). Eleventh Schedule (11th Schedule): Specifies the powers, authority, and responsibilities of Panchayats. It contains exactly 29 matters. (Added by the 73rd Amendment Act, 1992). Twelfth Schedule (12th Schedule): Specifies the powers, authority, and responsibilities of Municipalities (Urban Local Bodies). It contains exactly 18 matters. (Added by the 74th Amendment Act, 1992). 💡 Bonus: Atul Sir will also be discussing the most repeated MCQ patterns asked by the UPPRPB board in recent years.
