Welcome to the April 2025 Matnum. We start, as usual, with the Word Hunt. This month’s three keywords are program, there, and keep. You can use them as creative prompts—alone or combined—while shooting, and share your images online, with friends, or through hashtags from photocollective.net or pcll.tv . Now onto the images. I finished a virtual film roll using Vica, one of my apps for experimenting with QR-based film presets. I started it back in November, which reflects how long some virtual—or even analog—rolls can take. The process lets me forget the images and rediscover them later, which I love. The roll opens in Sellfoss, a town on Iceland’s southern coast. Everything was frozen—very early in the roll. One photo was taken under a bridge, the next from a bus in Copavogur, a neighborhood south of Reykjavík. Another shot is from a train in Versoix, Switzerland, where the random-looking location tags embedded in the contact sheet quietly hint at neighborhoods without revealing exact places. The image has a surreal tonality—probably due to the QQ Blewd 140 + Semi combination. Later in the roll, an airplane (likely a shot from Copenhagen, based on the aircraft type), a bouquet in town, and two cat photos taken in west Reykjavík close out the set. These two last shots combine pixelation, grain, and distortion in a way that bridges digital and analog. Switching to Camare in random 1:2 format, the next photo shows a mysterious rainbow near Reykjavík’s domestic airport. The RibOn + RD Papier preset gives it a saturated, surreal look. We then pass over Copenhagen before landing—images shaped by Herate and FJN02—followed by a church on a military island in central Copenhagen. All three images use Bomber Baba, which creates visual zones based on information density. Another shot in a converted bank-turned-design store offers rich contrast and strange architectural echoes. The contemporary art museum, now in a large repurposed industrial space, hosted a performance with classical musicians and dancers wearing the very textile sculptures on display—a magical moment captured in layered textures. In Vesterbro, the district west of Copenhagen Central Station, photos document vibrant nightlife in repurposed factories: DJs, bars, music, and atmospheric lighting. Treatments include Morkmal + KD Adent 100 and Isla + KDT32, often resulting in high contrast and digital grain. A church concert and an alternate take on the panini factory add to the moody visuals. Ouibak, Crunchy, Pola LRL, and Ach Dr all appear in various QR combinations, sometimes producing abstracted, almost painterly effects. Photos continue with a closed design store at night, a shot with harsh flash reflection on glass, and a small three-wheeled hot dog stand seen through Crunnechy and Netsesca. A train station image leads us north of Copenhagen to a seaside museum. From there, two contrasting photos of a little girl on a return train show the impact of varying filmulators and ensaturators. In one, the horizon is distorted subtly, but texture remains soft thanks to Kadiad 200+. Inside the museum was an immersive piece: a dark room filled with suspended lights, mirrors, and water, where visitors walk a narrow path. The resulting photo, though heavily filtered, captures the disorientation and spatial magic of the experience. A blurry photo of a woman on a balcony looking out to sea reminds me I still need to add manual focus to the apps—sometimes missed focus leads to the best accidents. The same scene, run through Camare’s experimental editor, is presented with three different presets (Semi/KDV3X, Cainswoe, QQL140), each altering the mood. Closing the set: a quiet Copenhagen bar run by an excellent Italian bartender—cocktails, good vibes, and a photo processed with Morkmal and ME DCC. Finally, a late-night shot of flowers in public space, taken on the move with flash, using Herate and KD 100. The result is full of kinetic blur, but it’s the one I liked most from that night. QR codes for all treatments are provided if you want to try them. As always, feel free to ask questions, leave comments, or share your own results.
