Want to support this channel and help us preserve old films? Visit / periscopefilm Visit our website www.PeriscopeFilm.com Dating to the Skylab era, this short, silent (and badly water damaged) film shows mock-ups of the proposed Apollo Telescope Mount (ATM) workstation for use aboard Skylab. These mock-ups were likely used for assessment purposes during the design phase. The ATM was a crewed solar observatory that was a part of Skylab, the first American space station. It could observe the Sun in wavelengths ranging from soft X-rays, ultra-violet, and visible light. The ATM was manually operated by the astronauts aboard Skylab from 1973–74, yielding data principally as exposed photographic film that was returned to Earth with the crew. The ATM console was designed to accommodate either a standing or a seated crewman and consisted of the ATM console, the foot restraint platform, an optional chair-type restraint, and a speaker intercom assembly (SIA). Long-term monitoring of status displays and visual scenes with potential quick reaction to dynamic situations represented the spectrum of tasks to be supported by the ATM workstation. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. We collect, scan and preserve 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have films you'd like to have scanned or donate to Periscope Film, we'd love to hear from you. Contact us via the link below. This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k. For more information visit http://www.PeriscopeFilm.com
