"My new vanilla pound cake is making its way to stores!" Walmart spokesman Scott Markley told ABC News that because of the unprecedented success of the Patti LaBelle Sweet Potato Pies, or "Patti Pies" as he calls them, preparation for the new cakes went into overdrive to make sure that Walmart was able to produce enough cakes to meet the high demand. "We needed 50,000 pounds of vanilla icing for our first orders of the vanilla pound cakes and 54,000 pounds of batter for the caramel cakes," Markley said. Walmart will start selling a Patti LaBelle Vanilla Pound Cake with vanilla icing and a Patti LaBelle Premium Caramel Cake year-round in select stores around the country. The vanilla pound cakes can be bought in stores today, and the caramel cake will be released in stores on Jan. 18. The new "Patti Cakes" are slightly more expensive than LaBelle's Sweet Potato Pie.
