Not every innovation begins with billion-dollar ideas in high-tech labs. Sometimes it starts with something as ordinary as a roll of tape - or as profound as a moment in the ICU. In this talk, medical students from Graz share two stories - one simple, one tragic- to show that innovation isn’t about the size of a problem, but the courage to act on it. That spirit led them to found MIOSIS, a space where students turn ideas into solutions that matter. Because real innovation begins the moment someone decides, this can’t stay the way it is. MIOSIS (Medical Innovations of Students in Styria) is where bold ideas to shape the future of healthcare emerge - not from textbooks, but from collaboration, curiosity and courage. Founded at the Medical University of Graz, MIOSIS connects students from diverse fields to share knowledge, exchange perspectives and co-create solutions that address pressing issues in medicine and care.In open, supportive environments, members are encouraged to grow, challenge assumptions and transform early-stage concepts into tangible impact - together. At its core, MIOSIS embraces a simple belief: Innovation isn’t about having all the answers - it’s about daring to explore, question and create.Sustainable progress arises when different perspectives converge into a shared understanding. MIOSIS is not just a platform. It’s a mindset - and a movement for the next generation of healthcare innovators This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
