Join Robert and Russell Brooke for a fascinating conversation reflecting on a lifetime devoted to boating, craftsmanship, and design. Robert began his journey as one of the last true young apprentices in wooden boat building at P. Vos Ltd (1955–1960), starting with clinker dinghies and eventually leading New Zealand’s marine industry apprenticeships program. Throughout his career, Robert has helped preserve New Zealand’s wooden boatbuilding heritage and continues to contribute pro bono to boatbuilding and restoration projects. His dedication and expertise have left an indelible mark on the nation’s maritime legacy. "Robert well deserves his MNZOM. It’s just so nice that his life’s work is recognised as having national value." – Harold Kidd This talk was part of the March 2025 Auckland Wooden Boat Festival Talks and Tours, hosted at the New Zealand Maritime Museum’s Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa.
