Attempted murder suspect accused of shooting 2 Portland police officers; outburst in court for bail

The man accused of shooting and seriously injuring two Portland Police officers last Monday will be held in the Multnomah County Jail without bail. Eric Oelkers appeared in court Tuesday morning, a day after SWAT teams arrested him on Northeast 82nd Avenue. He was arraigned on several charges, including two felony counts of attempted murder, for the January 19 shooting of two Portland Police officers. According to the court documents, one of the Portland officers was shot in the thigh, the bullet shattering his femur. The other officer was shot in his upper right arm and the left side of his neck, which took off a piece of his ear. Both have since been released from the hospital and are recovering at home. During his arraignment Tuesday, Oelkers had several outbursts and was yelling over others throughout the court proceedings, calling the case against him “unconstitutional.” At one point he claimed the courtroom was in an active rebellion against the United States. He also said AI and neurotransmitters are being used against American citizens, white Christians, and Trump supporters. "Trump's coming. Military is coming with him," he shouted.
