In this Dharma talk and guided meditation, recorded during our 2.14.26 Sangha gathering, we continue our exploration of Refuge by turning toward the second of the Three Refuges: Truth as Refuge. Together, we explore what it means to take refuge in the way things are — not as a philosophical idea, but as a lived, embodied practice. When we stop arguing with reality and begin meeting it with awareness, something shifts. We discover that what we were resisting may actually hold us. Drawing on Buddhist wisdom translated into everyday language, lived experience, and nature-based metaphor, this session explores how much of our suffering comes not from life itself, but from the effort to make it different. The talk includes: 🌿 Reflections on resistance and the exhaustion of “no” 🌿 Teachings on shenpa — the “hook” that pulls us into reactivity 🌿 The nurse log as a living metaphor for how what looks like loss can become nourishment 🌿 A grounded introduction to Vipassana (insight meditation) as a way of directly practicing truth The closing meditation is a Vipassana-based practice inviting you to meet sensation, emotion, and thought with steadiness and kindness; discovering for yourself that reality, when met honestly, can become a source of shelter. May this practice support you in resting in what is true, and in discovering the shelter that doesn’t depend on things going your way.🙏🛖 If it resonates, you’re warmly invited to join my online sangha or courses, where we practice in community: https://www.forestfloormindfulness.com 🌿 About Lisa Pedscalny Lisa is a mindfulness teacher certified through the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.
