The volcano, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted for over 11 minutes on the night of March 20, spewing ash clouds more than 8 kilometres high into the sky. The volcanic ash blanketed several villages, prompting the local government to declare a 14-day emergency. On Friday, Jetstar cancelled six of its Australia-bound flights from Bali, while Air Asia cancelled a flight to Kuala Lumpur. Several other domestic flights were also disrupted, but services reportedly resumed by evening.
