We (Brooke & Becca) are so excited to finally do a collab after many years! We have collaborated as music education panelists in conventions all around the country but this is the very first musical project we have completed together. The music of Ori and the Blind Forest is one of VGM’s best, and its woodwind-heavy score stuck out to both of us. Becca and I both completed this game around the same time and it is clear (for anyone that has played this game) that the opening cutscene with Naru is one of the most memorable. No spoilers here, but the music + emotional scene really gets to you! Becca presented me an amazing arrangement of this way back over the summer. I completed the audio mix in August and it has been a digital release since September. Lo and behold, three months later after a home emergency the music video is finally up on YouTube! Despite the slough of editing, I never got tired of this track. If I had one word to describe this track, it is uplifting. I tried something new in the video editing—a feathered crop in some of the split-screen effects; I thought the soft edges were more appropriate for this track than the boxy, precise edits that is pretty much the standard in music videos. I’m still getting used to it, but I think it had a cool effect! Also, SHAMELESS PLUG: If you want to see Becca and I live, in action, talking about music education (not music but still pretty cool ok), come see our MAGFest Panel on Thursday, January 17th, 2024 at 5:30 PM! I’m so excited to be uploading this video a couple days before Christmas, and I hope the holidays are treating everyone well. Enjoy this gift from Becca and I, and we both wish everyone a very happy holidays and New Year!
