In this video I make a children's chair out of leftover decking material. @karlpopewoodcraft has put out the challenge to make a chair, and i've never made one before so used this opportunity to try something new, and have used taken the chance to make one for each of my girls as they're always willing recipients of my creations and never give me negative feedback! Unfortunately due to overlapping projects i'd only finished one by the time i'd finished making this video, however i'll have them both completed by the weekend, promise! The material i've used is a hardwood called kwila, which is a common decking material here in NZ. I've picked a really simple design, using extremely accessible methodology of pocket hole joinery and plenty of glue and screw to ensure my ham fisted approach still resulted a useable chair that my kids can't destroy. By using a decking material it has the bonus of being hard wearing and designed for the outdoors (as they'll be going into their playhouses) however the negatives are that one side is ribbed which affects the joining and finishing quality. I'd have planed this down if it was bothering me too much, but fits the purpose absolutely fine. One property of kwila is that the oils need to weather and bleed out, so I'll oil it in a few months once this has had a chance to happen. Thanks for watching my video, be sure to check everyone else's out, and if you've enjoyed the content i'd love it if you'd subscribe. Chur!
