In this video, I demonstrate a clean and practical method for attaching ratlines to shrouds on a model ship, using traditional knot techniques. I start and finish each ratline with a cow hitch, which eliminates visible loose ends, and secure the ratline to each shroud in between using clove hitches. This approach results in neat, consistent ratlines that are well suited for scale model shipbuilding. The video begins with a demonstration on an easily accessible line, where tying knots is straightforward. In the second part, I show how I attach the final ratline, where limited space between the shrouds makes the process more challenging. On real ships, ratlines were significantly thinner than the shrouds. On model ships, however, achieving this difference in scale is often difficult, so practical compromises are sometimes necessary.
