In this video LetsCrashThisParade gets into the spoilers for the recent film Spiral: From the Book of Saw! Less a review and more of just an open chat, this is where I discuss the gist of my thoughts especially reguarding the ending of the film and it's overall implications towards the whole story. While I didn't love the film entirely - As you may know if you watched my non-spoiler review - I did find a lot of worthy things to appreciate here. I do think that Spiral is for the most part a clever movie even if it did let me down a little, and I wanted to delve deep into the characters motivations and what I think the film was trying to say as a piece of "art." (All film is art, F*%k yourself if you think this can't be worthy of "saying something" because it's part of the Saw franchise!) Spiral follows Detective Zeke Banks as he uncovers a mystery that seems to largely revolve around him, as victims keep getting taken down in familiar was the assumption is initally that a Jigsaw copycat is at large, particluarly when considering that John Kramer has been dead for the better half of 20 years. What follows is a dark investigatory thriller about Banks played by Chris Rock and his partner delving deep into a new dark set of games much akin to the prior films in the franchise. Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (the man behind Saw's 2, 3 and 4) the film brings the series "back on it's roots" in terms of how the first one was set out - But it also sets things in a new direction. While I'd say calling Spiral "unique" would be going a bit too far, I atleast appreciate that it was going for something different... Mainly though this video is just talking about Zeke and his father's relationship and motivations, and what comes of the twist reveal of the evil killer by the end. I think this film ended up having some pretty interesting things to say about corruption among those with power and I particularly appreciate the casting of Samuel L Jackson for very specific reasons that I get into in the video...
