Hey guys, today’s standard is called « i’ll be seeing you », it’s a song from 1941 about nostalgia composed by Sammy Fain, with lyrics from Irving Kahal. French president said French citizens will have to stay at home for at least a month, so once again all the concerts were cancelled.. we can say that this song is not a love nostalgia, but a need to find back the better days we had before this whole crisis. I’m happy to present this beautiful 1936 Gibson L5 Advanced, with a 17 inches body, small f holes, short scale and X braced pattern. The sound is deep and thick in the mids, but still have some clarity and a lot of punch in the higher register. Even if this one and the 1936 Gibson L12 featured on this channel (go see AS#76 « it’s only a paper moon ») have very similar specs (the L12 is supposed to be the same as the L5 but with less fancy inlays etc) we can hear that the sound is very different since the L12 seams to have more air in the sound, a bit like epiphones. I’d say that this 36 L5 is really old school sounding and can match well with the 34 L5 on this channel (16 inches this time). The guitar is strung with nickel d’addario chromes flatwounds gauge 12, i’m using a purple dunlop 0.71mm pick, and the sound is captured with a Neumann TLM 103 microphone.
