Despite passing through French territory for much of the way, this section from Cuneo to Ventimiglia remains operated by Trenitalia and features extraordinary railway infrastructure: tight curves with radii of just 300 meters, gradients of 25‰, and more than half the line between Robilante and Bevera running through tunnels. Along the way, the route threads through fortified galleries, steep hillsides, and fragile geological zones, where active landslides and rockfall still challenge operations today. What makes this journey unique is not just the dramatic natural backdrop, but the symbolic power of the railway itself—a lifeline of cross-border connection that has survived war, neglect, and even closure threats. Thanks to local advocacy and international cooperation, the Tenda Railway continues to enchant passengers, railfans, and engineers alike.
