Welcome to our presentation on neonatal cardiac surgery, a field that presents unique challenges for our tiniest patients. Our research highlights the significant mortality rates associated with complex procedures, despite the number of surgeries performed. By sharing these findings, we aim to enhance surgical practices and improve outcomes for newborns with heart conditions across Europe. Understanding neonatal cardiac surgery is vital for families facing difficult decisions. Our study indicates that certain surgeries, particularly the Norwood operation, have elevated mortality rates. This research seeks to guide improvements in care and support for vulnerable newborns undergoing heart surgery. We aim to illuminate the realities of neonatal cardiac surgery, which can be overwhelming for parents. While many surgeries succeed, some carry higher risks, especially for specific conditions. By sharing this data, we hope to encourage better practices and ultimately save more lives in the future. Our analysis reveals significant independent risk factors for in-hospital and 30-day mortality. Key factors include female gender, higher STAT categories, and specific medical conditions. Understanding these risks is essential for healthcare providers to identify high-risk patients and tailor management strategies effectively.
