The heroic soldiers captured a part of the A-35 road between Puthudiriyiruppu and Udayarkattu.. The troops unearthed two artillery barrels of the LTTE at Puthukudiyiruppu yesterday. The troops recovered two 130mm artillery guns of the LTTE buried eight feet deep in the ground at Puthukudiyiruppu south. The 5th Vijayaba Regiment of the 53rd Division commanded by Brig. Kamal Gunaratne recovered these weapons. The area was captured by the 20th Infantry Force of the 442nd Brigade commanded by Lt. Colonel Randula Hathnagoda under the Fourth Task Force of Colonel Nishantha Wanniarachchi, following fierce fighting. The LTTE attempted to stop the troops from advancing due to protect the heavy weapons hidden in the area. Following the Eastern operations, such weapons were found at Vakarai as well.
