11 and 1/2 miles combined there and back. 2000 foot elevation change up Dead Man's Canyon. ((No selfies, no verbal chatter, no trail bosses in this video, by the way)). A must see pine tree forest at the top with the Game Wardens cabin as the final prize. Presented here is a nuts and bolts guide to the Hidden Forest Structure at the 8000 foot mark surrounded by the tall tree forest. I tried twice before and turned around at the 2 and 3 mile point respectively. The incline is a nut buster, however I had friends who left before me on their way up, so we were determined at this point. The little one person cabin was built between 1900- 1930. Details are very sketchy. The exterior was refurbed by boy scout troops in 2009. Interior now needs a rebuild. Just imagine carrying supplies up this mountain, then working all day, maybe even a couple of days! Even though it is desert, it still gets cold at night at 8000 feet. There were several times that I thought I might of passed it or missed the cabin in the tall tree's. I have walked many miles over the years, but nothing like this before. So included are several land marks to look out for on the way up. Bring at least a gallon of water, some band aids and trail mix's. Don't forget shoe's. One does not need blisters to ruin your day. A good set of hiking sticks wouldn't hurt either. Let someone know where your going. The whole thing resulted in 10 to 11 hours time with a 1 hour rest at the cabin picnic tables. Also plan on 19 miles north up Alamo Road to Hidden Forest road combined.
