How to Install Recessed Lights in an Existing Ceiling | Pot Lights, Can Lights, Recessed Lighting

This video shows how to install recessed lights / recessed lighting installation. I installed this recessed lighting fixture between the trusses. These lights are known as pot lights, can lights and recessed lights. The pot lights installation is straight forward as these snap into place above the drywall. I then surrounded the lights with Roxxul mineral draft stopper to really seal it up to prevent airflow from above. Without the insulation there was a lot of airflow, especially noticeable during a windy storm. The links to similar tools and materials used are included below. IMPORTANT: The IC rating for recessed lighting means that it is rated for Insulation Contact. If it is not rated for insulation contact then a fire hazard would exist from the excessive heat buildup. This installation video does not cover the routing and connection of the wire at the electrical box where it was sourced from. This video only covers the installation of the recessed lighting fixture into the ceiling. TURN OFF THE BREAKER and verify that electric has been turned off by measuring it with an electrical tester. To install the recessed lighting fixture I first had to find a suitable location. The recessed lighting fixture requires a hole that is 6 1/4" in diameter cut out of the drywall. Trace the provided template at the location where you want to install the fixture. I could have used a drywall saw attached to my drill but I decided to use the the drywall knife instead. The wire must be routed through the hole cut in the ceiling and installed within the fixture's electrical box using a romex connector and using the optional wire connectors included within the recessed lighting fixtures electrical box. Then push the wire back into the ceiling and install a wireclip on the wire to the ceiling joist / bottom chord of the truss. Finally install the light in place. After installation of the lighting fixture you must secure the fixture in place using the tabs that are found within the fixture's can. Push up all four of the tabs then secure them following the supplied directions. Each fixture has its own variation of the tabs so please read the instructions and the design of the tabs change from product revision and across product lines.
