#megaprojects #europe In the early 2000s, European Union leaders recognized the need for a comprehensive and integrated transportation network to support the growing economy and population of the EU. Thus, they launched the Trans-European Transport Network project, which aimed to create a seamless, multimodal transportation network that would connect all EU member states and promote economic growth. The TEN-T project was a massive undertaking, involving the construction and improvement of roads, railways, ports, and airports across the continent. It was divided into two main components: the "core network" and the "comprehensive network." The core network consisted of the most important transportation routes and infrastructure, while the comprehensive network covered the rest of the continent. Over the years, the TEN-T project made significant progress in constructing and improving transportation infrastructure across the continent. For example, it funded the construction of major highways, such as the A1 motorway in Poland and the A2 motorway in Portugal. It also supported the construction and upgrading of railways, such as the high-speed rail link between Paris and Strasbourg.
