The 21km Slave Route Challenge in Cape Town isn’t just a race — it’s a powerful journey through the history and heritage of the Cape. 🏃♂️🌍 Inspired by Farouk Meyer, founder member of the Brimstone Itheko Sport AC, this race traces the footsteps of those enslaved and the apprentices from Indonesia and Malaysia who helped build Cape Town. Many Capetonians trace their ancestry back to these individuals, and this race is a tribute to their legacy. Why We Run the Slave Route Challenge: A tribute to the enslaved: From the Bo-Kaap to District Six, we run to honor the history of the people who built Cape Town. Raising awareness: This race highlights the impact of slavery on Cape Town’s culture and society, helping participants connect to our shared heritage. A dream realized: Farouk Meyer’s vision of bringing this history to life through a running event became a reality — and we’re proud to be part of it. This race brings together history, heritage, and community, offering a meaningful way to engage with Cape Town's past while celebrating the spirit of resilience that shaped this city. 💬 Support and Share: Like, comment, and share this video to help raise awareness about Cape Town’s rich heritage.
