Père Lachaise Cemetery (Cimetière du Père-Lachaise) in Paris is like an open-air art gallery adorned with sculptures and other forms of art. It’s a ‘must do’ thing to do on any itinerary when visiting the wonderful city of Paris. Mainly people go to Père Lachaise to see the statues and ornate mausoleums. And others come to pay respects at the graves of famous people interred there. For example, there is Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison, Édith Piaf, Delacroix, Honoré de Balzac, Sarah Berhardt, Molière, Chopin and Seurat. Paris, like a lot of France, has many cemeteries which feature great art. If you like Père Lachaise, there is also Cimetière de Montmartre and Cimetière du Montparnasse, which provide the experience of a historically rich and atmospheric insight into Paris.
