During the end-of-year address to the nation, Biya indicated subtly that he was interested in seeking an eighth term in the presidential elections, which are expected to be held in October 2025. The nonagenarian leader warned that 2025 was full of challenges, which some observers interpreted as indicating that Biya saw himself as the head of state beyond 2025. Biya remains the sole candidate of the ruling CPDM party. He has been the President of Cameroon since 1982 and is the oldest serving leader in the world. But in recent months, concerns around his health condition have been constantly raised. But the government has quashed those rumours as pure fantasy.
