X-GUARD towed decoy for SU-30 MKI In today's increasingly complex battlespace environments, effective protection against air defense systems is critical for fighter aircraft survival. Though threat detection capabilities are improving, there is a growing need for active EW missile defense. This where the role of the system like, X-GUARD towed missiles becomes crucial. The decoy solution helps in defeating advanced tracking radar, including monopole and Lobe-On-Receive-Only (LOBO) radar types. As per reports, IAF is planning to equip Su-30 MKIs which forms its backbone, with X-Guard fibre optic towed decoys. Indian Rafales are also equipped with the X Guard Fibre Optic Towed Decoy. The Low-drag and lightweight, X-GUARD can be used in all operational missions to counter air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles. It is owed behind the fighter aircraft and is deployable and retractable in mid-flight. X-GUARD can be deployed either when the aircraft approaches a threatened area or upon detection of an imminent threat. The decoy can be integrated with the EW suite of any platform as a high-value active suite component. In the retraction phase, the decoy is returned to its position under the aircraft's wing and re-connected with Pylon. SU-30 MKI in Air-to-Air combat mode Indian Sukhoi has already many other electronic warfare components in its inventory. Recently, an Indian Air Force Su-30MKI was seen flying armed with two R-27R (semi-active radar homing) in its Inner pylon, two R-27T (infra-red homing) in its Middle pylon and two R-73 in its outer pylon. Most noticeable was the SAP 518 Jamming pod. You can see two of them at both the ends of the wind tip. You might be wondering why two jamming pods are needed. These two jamming have slightly different operational role. The RTU 518-PSM is used as a transmitter (i.e. jammer) pod, while the other pod which is RTU 518-LSM1 is a receiver pod. While the RTU 518-PSM is thought to have an active jamming system, the RTU 518-LSM1 is a passive receiver that looks for threatening electromagnetic spectrum emissions, like those from adversary radars. The two detachable pods are part of the SAP 518-SM active ECM system. SU-30 MKI – Indian Growlerski The SAP-518 is used to jam advanced air defenses during ground attack missions imitating electronic signatures of various aircraft. It covers NATO surface-to-air and air-to-air threats in the G-J bands. The jamming pod is Extremely effective against radars & EM/RF missiles in its operating band of 5-18GHz. The SAP-518 along with SAP-14 jamming pod is considered similar to the United States ALQ-99 jamming system installed on the EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft. SAP14 of has some envelope limitations and so is with Growler. Su-30 equipped with SAP14 & two SAP518 pods is in-famously called Growlerski by some westerners, due to its immense ECM capability. Indian SU-30 MKI has been spotted multiple times, flying with these two pods integrated and is already in use by air force. DRDO’s Jamming Pod DARE has also developed a High Band Jammer (HBJ) pod for SU-30MKI aircraft to be carried at the wingtips. The HBJ can replace the SAP-518 jamming pods in SU-30 MKIs. HBJ is expected to have better integration with the RWR on board than the existing Russian SAP-518 pods. DARE has also started working on Advanced Self Protection Jammer (ASPJ) which will feature Gallium Nitride based solid-state active electronically scanned array (AESA) jammer transmitters along with Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM). The DRFM jammers are known for severely degrading adversaries’ radars and missile seekers. ASPJ is going to be a single POD unlike HBJ which is dual pod. This POD is going to be the next generation POD for upcoming 4.5th & 5th generation fighters of Indian Airforce include Tejas MK-II and AMCA. ==========WHOMSOEVER IT MAY CONCERN============= Most of the pictures clip or BGM included in the Video Belongs to their Respected Owners and we do not claim rights.
