Seed Less Vascular Plants (Tracheophytes) Detailed Lecture

Tracheophytes Tracheophytes are plants with roots, stems and leaves. Some tracheophytes reproduce with seeds and some reproduce with spores. Tracheophytes are also called vascular plants. A vascular plant contains the conducting systems which consist of xylem for conveyance of water and phloem for conveyance of food such as sugar. In This video my focus will be on seedless vascular plants. Seedless vascular plants are further divided into two phylums. 1- Phylum Lychophyta or Lycopsida (Club Moss) 2- Phylum Monilophyta Phylum Monilophyta is further divided into three classes. a- Psilopsida or Psilotopsida ( Whisk Ferns) b- Sphenopsida or Equisetopsida or Arthrophytes ( Horse Tail) c- Pteropsida or Polypodiopsida (Ferns). General Characteristics of tracheophytes. They contain Vascular tissues Xylem and phloem. They have roots, stem and leaves. In these plants sporophyte generation is dominant, while gametophyte is reduced. Most Tracheophytes develop pollen tube for fertilisation. They are used as food, medicine, fuel, and fiber etc. At the end of video I have discussed the Life cycle of ferns.
