FOUNDATIONS - LGBT Diversity National Conference was held on Monday 29th November 2010 in the Westbury Hotel Dublin. Conference Outline: "Foundations" The focuses of the conference are: 1. Building the capacity of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Organisations 2. Building a strong foundation for cohesive LGBT work 3. Building sustainability of the LGBT sector Main Conference address by HE Mary McAleese, President of Ireland. Speakers, panelists and workshop facilitators included: Breda Lymer, Melanie Judge, Ailbhe Smyth, Katherine O'Donnell, Dave Roche, Davin Roche, Avila Kilmurray, Michael Barron, Anastasia Crickley, Niall O'Sullivan, Mary O'Kennedy, George Robotham, Marzia Baldassari, David Carroll. Workshop Descriptions: Managing/recruiting Volunteers: will include the volunteer management cycle, planning, managing difficulties and developing links with local volunteer centres. Governance/Capacity Building: will explore delegates' experience of governance and capacity building in order to discuss emerging issues. It will also provide an opportunity for organisations to identify, prioritise and document their governance and capacity building needs. LGBT Spaces: will explore approaches to providing LGBT spaces in towns/cities in Ireland. It will also provide an opportunity to share information including successes and challenges. Developing a Fundraising Model for your Organisation: will provide delegates with an opportunity to gain an understanding of the process of developing a funding strategy for their organisation and identifying sources of funding. Family/Friends Support: will provide an opportunity for family members, friends and support groups to address the currents needs; learn from the existing support groups' experiences and research; and discuss future development of supports and services for parents, family and friends of LGBT people with the aim of establishing a nationwide support network.
