Zhang Dalei, the movie’s director, is praised as ‘the most surprising discovery of Chinese movies after Bi Gan’. In 2016, Zhang’s debut movie The Summer Is Gone won the Best Feature Film at Golden Horse Film Festival. While the movie was released, the renowned actor Chen Daoming gave his support and suggested the public watch the film like in the 1990s.
