Brand names: Benzac. Available as a gel. How to use it? Clean your skin with lukewarm water before applying the gel. Apply the gel in a thin layer. Don’t massage or rub it in. Only apply the gel at undamaged skin. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, and lips. If it does happen, rinse immediately with water. Duration of treatment? You can expect results after 4 to 8 weeks of use, but usually it takes up to 3 months. If you are benefiting from the treatment it is best to continue it until the acne is over. When to use it? Benzoyl Peroxide is used to treat acne. What is the correct dosage? Always use the dosage and frequency prescribed by your own doctor. What are the side-effects? Very common (more than 10%): mild burning, red skin reaction, dry skin and scaling (first weeks). Common (1-10%): itching, irritation and pain. Uncommon (0.1-1%): eczema. Safety: It is safe to use with alcohol (in moderation), combine with any type of food and drive while using this drug. However, Benzoyl Peroxide can have interactions with other drugs. Therefore always ask your prescribing physician if Benzoyl Peroxide is safe for you. Pregnancy and Lactation: As far as is known Benzoyl Peroxide can be used safely during pregnancy or while breast feeding. But just to make sure always discuss this with your prescribing doctor.
