BR_A_1002 This 3D animation shows the progress of a thrombosis from a cortical vein to the superior sagittal sinus, and the resulting brain infarct. First we are shown an antero-superior view of a woman's upper head with the brain and its venous system visible. The major features are identified. An enlargement of a thrombus in a left cortical vein is shown. An MRI slice showing the defect is pulled away from the brain. Back to the head image, we see the thrombus propagating through the superior sagittal sinus. Another MRI slice shows the worsening effects of the thrombus. Back to the head image again, we see that a blocked cortical vein has caused a brain infarct on the right side.
