Ghana has marked a historic milestone with the official commissioning of Phases 1 and 2 of the Tema Port Expansion Project—one of West Africa’s most transformative maritime infrastructure achievements. Hosted at MPS Terminal 3, the ceremony brought together national leaders, international partners, industry stakeholders, and diplomats to celebrate a project that is reshaping the region’s logistics future. In his opening remarks, Mohamed Samara, CEO of Meridian Port Services Ltd., reflected on the bold vision that has now become a world-class terminal delivering faster vessel turnaround, expanded capacity, advanced digitalisation, and a safer, more sustainable operational environment. He emphasised the project’s success in boosting Ghana’s competitiveness, enabling larger vessel calls, creating jobs, and driving economic growth. Goodwill messages from GPHA, APM Terminals, and Africa Global Logistics highlighted the strength of the public–private partnership behind the project, its alignment with global port standards, and its significant socio-economic impact for Ghana and the region. Representing the Government, the Minister for Transport underscored the strategic importance of the expanded terminal to national development and regional trade, while reaffirming government support for continued growth in the maritime sector. In his keynote address, H.E. President John Dramani Mahama praised the achievement as a testament to collaborative vision and national ambition. He described the expanded Tema Port as a strategic asset that strengthens Ghana’s economic resilience, supports industrialisation, and reinforces its role as the natural gateway to West Africa. The commissioning of Phases 1 and 2 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Ghana’s maritime sector. MPS remains committed to continuous improvement, digitalisation, safety, sustainability, and service excellence—ensuring that Tema Port stands as the most efficient and cost-effective gateway in the region.
