The Stone Killer [The 45's Collection] (1973) Composed by Roy Budd (1947-1993) Tracklisting: 1. [00:00] Main Title 2. [03:15] On The Trail 3. [06:11] Too Late 4. [06:40] Down Uptown 5. [10:25] The Old Precinct 6. [11:46] On the Move 7. [13:37] Final Chapter Directed by Michael Winner (1935-2013) and based on the John Gardner novel 'A Complete State of Death, this American action-crime film came out in-between 'The Mechanic (1972) and 'Death Wish (1974), all three of which teamed up the director with Charles Bronson (1921-2003). The film also stars Christina Raines, Stuart Margolin (who also appeared in Death Wish), Jack Colvin (1934-2005), John Ritter (1948-2003), Martin Balsam (1919-1996), Norman Fell (1924-1998), and Ralph Waite (1928-2014). Both Norman Fell and John Ritter teamed up again for the television sitcom 'Three's Company (1977-1984). This bloody crime flick stars Charles Bronson as Detective Lieutenant Lou Torry, a grizzled undercover New York City cop who ruins his career when he is caught going violently overboard while apprehending a ghetto punk. As punishment, Torry is banished all the way to the L.A. Police Department, where he begins investigating a mysterious chain of events involving ex-soldiers that seem to be Mob related. Assigned by Detective Daniels (Norman Fell) to assist Torrey is Mathews (Ralph Waite), a bungling bigot whose problems are compounded by the trouble he has communicating with his teenaged daughter (Christina Raines). Torrey must travel from the seedy underworlds of New York's Spanish Harlem and little Italy, to the skid row of Los Angeles to track down a Mafia don (Martin Balsam) who has vowed to avenge the killings of a group of Mafia dons back in 1931 (The Night of Sicilian Vespers) with a bold nationwide counter-strike against most of the current Italian and Jewish syndicate heads using teams of Vietnam vets instead of Mafia hit-men. A superior example of tough cop against the mob, this is the best violent big-city police movie since 'Dirty Harry. This outstanding film score (originally recorded in 1973) by UK's Roy Budd has been a Holy Grail of soundtracks among vinyl collectors for as long as it has existed. Now for the first time, Record Label 'Dynamite Cuts is releasing a 2x7'' 45 collection of some of the gems it holds, loaded with deep slow heavy grooves that makes you tingle. Budd was a master of the cinematic music world, and gave us some brilliant scores, among the better known are 'Get Carter (1971), Alistair MacLean's 'Fear is the Key (1972), 'The Marseille Contract (1974), 'The Black Windmill (1974), and 'The Wild Geese (1978).
