Though the distance varies between 4 to 6 kilometer because at winter due to heavy snowfall the Thajiwas glacier proceeds and during summer it recedes back. There is metal road from Sonamarg taxi stand to Thajiwas glacier. You can hire a taxi (Tata Sumo / Tata Safari / Travera) or a pony to reach upto the glacier. The journey to Sonamarg itself is a memory for the life. The roadside lush green meadows, snow capped mountains, icy river will more than please your eyes. Sindh Nallah will be your companion along the the entire journey to Sonamarg from Srinagar. Sonamarg is a major tourist attraction in Srinagar, Kashmir.
