Baby Let's Play House was written by Arthur Neal Gunter. Arthur recorded it for a new up-start independent record label in Nashville, Tennessee called Excello. Released in 1954, the song was Arthur's first record release. Gunter continued to record for Excello until 1961. Although the track became known as Arthur's biggest record, it wasn't until Elvis Presley recorded it with Scotty Moore and Bill Black for Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee, early the following year that the song found its enduring success. The fourth of five-total Elvis Presley records released by Sam Phillips on his Sun label, Baby Let's Play House (Sun 217) was the first to put Elvis on the American music charts, reaching #5 in the July 30 issue of Billboard for Territorial top Country songs. The charts equally positioned the record's flip side, I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone. Of note are a couple points of interest; on Elvis Presley's rendition, Elvis altered some of the lyrics to refer to the '55 Pink Cadillac he had purchased, and John Lennon used the song's line 'rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man' for the song ' Run For Your Life' that appeared on the 1965 Rubber Soul album by The Beatles. I recorded this video of my original pressing of Arthur Gunter's Excello 78 RPM record playing on my turntable to share the experience of playing 78s with those who also enjoy the hobby and history of vinyl records especially original versions of songs that became famous. I do not claim or own, nor imply ownership, of the song or music recording in any way. Lyrics (unaltered) You may go to college May go to school You may get religion, baby, don't you be nobody's fool Now baby, come, baby, come Come back, baby, come Come back, baby, I want to play house with you Well, listen, let me tell you baby What I'm talkin' about Come on back to me, little girl, so we can play some house Now baby, come, baby, come Come back, baby, come Come back, baby, I want to play house with you Now this is one thing, baby What I want you to know Come on back and let's play a little house and we can do what we did before Now baby, come, baby, come Come back, baby, come Come back, baby, I want to play house with you Now listen, let me tell you baby Don't you understand Rather see you dead, little girl, than to be with another man Now baby, come, baby, come Come back, baby, come Come back, baby, I want to play house with you
