NUX Horseman Overdrive Pedal | Two Klon Centaur circuits in one tiny box for $70?! Review & Demo

This is the NUX Horseman OD overdrive pedal! The Horseman is NUX’s take on the legendary Klon Centaur overdrive, originals of which have been played by the likes of John Mayer and Joe Bonamassa and catch fetch up to $5,000 (yes, you read that right – five thousand dollars!) on the used market. Well, for the price of one of those you could put together a stable of 70 Horsemen, if you so wished! It’s about €50 in Europe, and $70 in the USA. Get the Horseman here: https://bit.ly/NUXHorsemanRWM The reason so many guitar players love the Centaur/Horseman design is because it produces (cliché alert) transparent overdrive – in that it pushes our tone into overdrive without coloring the tonal characteristic of our guitar and amp. Lovely. That’s why so many companies make their own so-called Klone pedals. The Horseman offers us two distinct sound modes – Gold and Silver, both of which are modeled after original Klon designs – in a mini pedal format. Small enough to fit on any board, and pretty rugged and solid feeling, the pedal has just three controls (Output, Gain, and Treble). You toggle between the Gold and Silver modes by holding down the footswitch for a second or so, with an LED to indicate which mode is engaged. The pedal also allegedly offers true bypass and buffered bypass modes (the original Klons feature a legendary buffer which is said to improve your tone even when the pedal is not switched on!) although I couldn’t get this feature to work, sadly. In the playing part of the video, I test out the Horseman with three of my guitars – my Fender Telecaster and Stratocaster, and my Epiphone Les Paul – in a range of my favorite musical styles to see how it handles the different guitars and pickup types, and at the end, I do a nice little loop with each guitar where I tweak the pedal’s controls to show you all the extremes you can get with it. That went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Oh, and I used my TC Electronic Ditto Looper to play the loops.
