On a whim over the Fourth of July Holiday, we decided to take a ferry from the Door County peninsula to Washington Island. I have been visiting Door County for over 30 years and have never gone to the Island before. https://www.doorcounty.com/discover/w... There are two ferries available, the Washington Island Ferry (pedestrians and automobiles) or the Yankee Clipper (pedestrians and bicycles). We took the Yankee Clipper located on the peninsulas western shoreline. The Washington Island Ferry is located on the peninsulas eastern shoreline. The Yankee Clipper sailed through the Devi's Doorway passage known for wreaking sudden havoc upon shipping and pleasure vessels navigating the area. There have been numerous ship wrecks in this passage. On the island, vehicular traffic is allowed. Most visitors use bicycles or trams to get around. Places of note to see: Nelson's Bitters Club - The oldest running tavern in the U.S. During prohibition, the tavern served bitters which was considered a pharmaceutical. This enabled the tavern to remain open. You can join the club by doing a shot of Bitters at the bar. School House Beach - An all rock beach and only 1 of 5 like it in the world. The Stavkirke - A medieval stage church, this is a replica depicting the remaining Stavkirkes in the world, a Norwegian-inspired church. We completed this journey in an afternoon thanks to the tram. However, I strongly encourage visitors to make a day of it. If using the vehicle ferry with your car, be aware of the extended wait times that can occur. There are numerous ferries running during the shuttle times. Music provided by: Epidemicsound.com I use Final Cut Pro on a MacBook Air and/or iMac when editing.
