This is my video of the Blue Room at House on the Rock in Spring Green, WI from my visit on 4/4/2025. No real updates to provide here beside the triangle was fixed. Machine last upgraded Spring 2024. The vibraharp continues to not work e. In the background towards the end you can hear the Mikado in the background. I will now provide historical details about this machine. The Blue Room, which was completed in 1974, was the first music machine that was designed as a full orchestra that plays itself. It was originally created with help from Dave Ramey Sr. and John Hovancak. It was mentioned on a VHS documentary (available through Archive.org) that this was Alex Jordan's favorite music machine. I understand that the sounds of the strings, woodwinds, etc were from strategically hidden organ pipes (the violins from a very rare dismantled 1912 Philipps Paganini orchestrion). The Blue Room in those earliest days ran off of punched tape. The violin pipes from it were since sold to the Sanfilippo "Place de la Musique" collection in Barington Hills, IL where the pipes are restored and in the rare rebuilt Philipps Pianella Paganini Violin/Piano Style 3 orchestrion they have. The parts were dismantled from the Blue Room in 1986 and were then substituted with an audio system to reproduce the sounds (using at least two different synthesizer types) as the pipes no longer existed in the display (the audio system and controls are what was recently upgraded). The only organ parts that are still intact at the Attraction in the Blue Room are the swell shutters. The red objects behind the stringed instruments are the swell shutters and these would have been to adjust the sounds produced from the organ pipes behind them. I've only seen these shutters work in two videos from Fall of 2017 (when the machine barely played) and in the 1988 tour video. I've yet to find a video online or hear a recording of it playing at a time when the organ pipes (including those from the Paganini) still were providing the sound instead of an audio system. This is a link to an article about the Paganini orchestrion that was built from the parts that were once in this exhibit: https://mechanicalmusicpress.com/rebl... This is a video posted by Gregory Leifel (who is the Sanfilippo Foundation's Executive Director) demonstrating the rare Philipps Paganini Violin/Piano Style 3 (the orchestrion that was built from the parts dismantled from the Blue Room) as heard today at Sanfilippo Foundation's "Place de la Musique" in it's present form (the same realistic sounding violin pipes heard in this are exactly what once produced the sounds of violins in the Blue Room in the 1970s to mid 1980s): • Phillips Paganini - Sanfilippo Founda...
