Meat has long been a status symbol, synonymous with strength, virility, health and wealth. In her amusing but disturbing talk, Tessa challenges us to get stuck in to the really meaty issues. If we are to feed a growing population and avoid climate catastrophe, we need to drastically reduce the amount of meat we eat. Tessa addresses the questions: Is it's meat’s long standing status holding us back? What’s this doing to our health? And, is the problem worse for men? Tessa is fascinated by how we can use food to improve our health, culture and the environment. As a Creative Partner at Environmental Charity, Hubbub, Tessa runs food campaigns to reduce food waste, increase food skills and promote low meat diets. Tessa is a food writer and proud to be a cookery teacher and Trustee at Eat Club (Eat-club.org). Tessa is interested in branding and behaviour change and has a deep-seated love of cooking, growing, eating and offal. Prior to Hubbub, Tessa worked in the Sustainable Food Trust's communication's team after a period in San Francisco with the Good Food Foundation organising the Good Food Awards. Tessa has a Masters in the Anthropology of Food from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). This followed from work in the kitchen, front of house and researching the cook book for the award winning Ethicurean restaurant. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
