October No Dig Harvest – Late Season Bounty from Summer Sowings | Key Dates & Autumn Abundance

Welcome to my October garden tour. I’m filling my trug with beautiful vegetables that are all grown from late planting, some remarkably late ones, and it’s to give you the knowledge and inspire you to keep your gardens full right to the end of the season. All no dig, all grown with compost, no feeds or fertilisers. You’ll see how second plantings after peas and beans still give rich harvests deep into autumn. From late sowings of Golden Acre cabbages, to turnips, kale ‘Dazzling Blue’, spinach ‘Medania’, endive ‘Diva’, radicchio, collards, and more — here are wonderful reminders that there’s still plenty to sow, plant, and pick as daylight shortens. There’s also celeriac, the only whole-season vegetable here, and it weighs 2 kg. Celeriac is very dry and dense, so that’s a huge amount of food in just one hypocotyl (bulb). Every harvest adds to the soil as roots slowly rot down through winter, showing how no dig keeps soil covered, fertile, and thriving year-round. You’ll also find ideas for: 🌱 Succession sowing after early crops 🌱 Key dates for late-summer and early-autumn planting 🌱 Green manures and soil cover through winter 🌱 Crops for late-autumn and winter salads Do check my website for details of No Dig Day 2025, coming up on 3rd November — https://www.charlesdowding.co.uk/no-d... — and be encouraged to keep sowing and planting right through the seasons.
