I needed a way to keep my blast hood from fogging up. This is my solution, plus tips on dry compressed air. I am using a Harbor Freight 40lb pressure blaster with 1/8" nozzle and air is fed from a Quincy QT-5 compressor. I have 17 cfm of air at 175 psi. Long run of 3/4" copper pipe and 2 water separators remove moisture from the compressed air. I have been using fine media on this project, the medium cuts much faster, but I am afraid of eroding too much metal in the process. I normally run Black Diamond Slag but my 2 local sources are out of fine grit, I ended up with Black Blast media from Menards. I could not tell much if any difference between the 2 products, I have not had clogging issues with either. If you are in the market for a cheap compressor and sand blaster look up air requirements before hand, many peoples expectations do not line up with reality on this subject. I plan on paying to have large objects like the frame done by someone else, it is just not worth it for me to do. Having fresh outside air injected into my blast hood has made a world of difference in my productivity. Before the lens would fog up in the first minute, and then I was guessing at what I was cleaning. The atmospheric conditions are a bit different during filming than they were previously but initial impressions are great.
