This year, I built an F4U Corsair with a 1300mm wingspan. Nine years ago, I constructed a Corsair model using 6mm polyfoam or Depron foam sheets. However, this latest version is significantly simpler and easier to build, and most importantly, a comprehensive build video is available on YouTube. Instead of using a 3S LiPo battery for power, like the previous model, I experimented with a 4S battery. The results were impressive – it provides ample power while still maintaining excellent flight characteristics on a 3S battery. If you opt for a 3S battery, you'll need to add more weight to the nose for balance. The 4S version requires approximately 150 grams of nose weight. Similar to the previous design, this model utilizes an angled firewall for motor mounting, eliminating the need for right thrust adjustment. However, a slight downthrust angle of around 3 degrees is still necessary. To correct for any tendency to pitch up, simply trim the elevator (either on the radio or physically). The landing gear is fixed but easily detachable using screws. Crucially, ensure the center of gravity (CG) is located 7cm from the leading edge of the wing.
