Join local theater artist Alex Espy as he creates a toy version of the Kauffman Center complete with toy performers. Templates and instructions for the craft can be found on pages 3 through 5 in the Activity Booklet. Alex Espy is currently the Education Director at Mesner Puppet Theater, which focuses on puppetry as a tool for the social and emotional development of young people. He has performed in the Kauffman Center’s Helzberg Hall with the Kansas City Symphony in "Peter and the Wolf," "Around the World in 80 Days" and several Kinderkonzerts. Other favorite projects include "Alice in Wonderland" for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and "Sideways Stories" from Wayside School at the Coterie. The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts – a major not-for-profit center for music, opera, theater and dance designed by Moshe Safdie – opened in 2011. Serving as a cultural cornerstone for Kansas City and the region, the Kauffman Center delivers extraordinary and diverse performing arts experiences. Held every summer at the Kauffman Center, Future Stages Festival is a free, family-friendly community event that showcases youth performers and interactive arts activities.
