☆ open me :))) I would have used a bunch of sampled instruments from Super Mario Kart to interpret this song, because it was something I felt like doing. However, due to my computer’s tendency to die when playing too many samples, I revisited the concept in the context of my long-running 8-bit series. And it just so happens that this is one of the few Blackpink (?) songs with zero rap in it. The rather textured and layered bassline, which concealed a fascinating aura of complexion in its simplicity, was one which very noticeably fluctuated in its volume, a parameter the NES 2A03 triangle wave was restricted in. Thus you will hear that the bassline is handled by the DPCM channel, which is playing back a single sample compressed to 16 KB and bitcrushed to make it sound somewhat authentic. I also tried to rectify a lack of vibrato in my previous (8-bit) cover, Blue Flame, by adding vibrato wherever I thought it was appropriate. The self-imposed 2A03 limitation also meant that I had to choose some of the more prominent elements of the instrumental to recreate while forgoing others, all in the name of staying true to the five channels of audio that the 2A03 was capable of. I also ran into some percussion woodblocks that the noise channel could not replicate on its own. So I supplemented the noise channel with the triangle wave, which saw little utilisation in this remix, since its usual utilisation as the bass instrument has been handed over to the DPCM channel. Sometimes errors seep through screening, and I apologise in advance if the audio is a bit off (read: way off). Like or dislike, it's all up to you. If you left a like, great!
