Elephant Nature Park – Majestic Elephant Project (NO RIDING) https://www.elephantnaturepark.org/ An absolutely amazing experience to be able to spend the day close to these beautiful, gently giants, and what gratitude to the caregivers who dedicate their time and efforts to provide the best care they can to these creatures. Their website offers a lot of information about their mission and efforts and all the things they do. Here you can find different projects to visit and/or volunteer with. Our Experience: The caregivers truly delight in taking amazing care of these animals. They treat them like family, ensuring they are well fed, well cared for, and protected. Three elephants are cared for at this project. Their newest addition, Rodger, is a sixteen year old male rescued from a circus while their two females, Mae Bun Peng in her 30's and the eldest Mae Daeng in her 60's, were rescued from logging and trekking work. Before we crossed the river to meet these elephants, we were informed, many times, to be very mindful of washing our hands (sunscreen and bug spray) before handling any food or interacting with the elephants to ensure the elephants remained healthy. Our Day, approx. 8am to 4pm: (lockers, water, lunch, snack, equipment for rafting provided) • 1st snack time (group is educated with regards to how to interact and feed the elephants, precautions to be aware of and respect for the elephants and their space. Beautiful experience to see three magnificent giants slowly make their way over to you as you prepare to feed them) • 2nd snack time with short and easy hike (each given a bag filled with more food. Elephants have a great sense of smell ;) … so they know when there is food around. Do not do what we did and feed the elephants ALL our food at once haha. The key here is to keep walking, while feeding the elephants, so that they walk with you into the forest, otherwise you’ll be left with three unmotivated elephants looking for more food haha) • 3rd snack time, elephants eat banana root at top of hill (so captivating to watch these elephants handle and eat their food) • Lunch time for humans and elephants (here, there is the opportunity to make your own serving of pad thai and to help yourself to a small vegetarian buffet) • 4th snack time and making of herbal rice balls (as one of the three elephants is an elder, the caregivers really pay attention to her health so we had the opportunity to mash and make giant rice balls comprised of different herbs, sticky rice, coconut, banana, and watermelon) • Bath time (our final time with the elephants was time in the river as they bathed) • Rafting (pending conditions of the river, we went rafting with a guide, bouncing back and forth between boulders, splashing through small drops, and swam a bit near the end) • Snack time … for humans (they provided fresh bananas and deep fried bananas at the end of the trip for us) • “Poop Frame” (photos are taken throughout the day trip by one of the caregivers and all photos are uploaded on their facebook page for free download. To help support their cause, including all the staff, ‘elephant poop’ photo frames are sold for 200B and includes a photo they take of you during the trip or 150B for just the frame) Equipment GoPro Hero 8 iphone XR DJI Osmo Mobile 2 Gimbal
