In this episode of our Iceland road trip takes us through some of the most dramatic landscapes along the South Coast — a day that truly shows why Iceland is called the land of fire and ice. We begin at the mighty Skógafoss, where roaring water crashes down with unbelievable force, creating rainbows in the mist. From there, we head to the iconic black sand beach of Reynisfjara, surrounded by towering basalt columns and powerful Atlantic waves that remind you how raw nature can be. Driving further east, we stop at the breathtaking canyon of Fjaðrárgljúfur, a winding green gorge that looks straight out of a fantasy movie. The landscapes continue to evolve as we reach Vatnajökull National Park and explore the stunning glacier views near Skaftafell. Standing close to the glacier makes you realize how ancient and powerful these ice formations truly are. Our final stop of the day — almost at midnight — is the surreal Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where massive chunks of glacier float silently toward the sea. We even spotted seals swimming between the icebergs while a few kayakers explored the lagoon. Just across the road lies Diamond Beach, where crystal-clear ice fragments rest on black volcanic sand, glowing like diamonds against the dark shoreline. It was unlike anything we had ever seen. This day perfectly captured Iceland’s contrasts — waterfalls, volcanic beaches, deep canyons, and ancient glaciers — all in a single stretch of road.
