RIVAL GANGS EXT is a top-down, open world sandbox game taking influence from the original GRAND THEFT AUTO games on the PC/PS1 The government has sought the assistance of your agency regarding the urgent need for a solution to the gang-related chaos which engulfs the city. The constant battling between the rival CHAMELEON and DARKSIDER gangs has made the city so unsafe that even the police have fled. The proposed solution is to completely annihilate one the gangs, which is where you come in. Posing as a gang member, you to take out as many of their members and vehicles as possible until your gang achieves total control of the city. Everybody in the city has sided with one of the gangs, but most are unarmed and will flee at the first sign of trouble. As you progress, more will start carrying weapons and fighting back if triggered. You start in the hideout in the industrial, and you are unarmed, so you have to find weapons that has been hidden in the city by the agency, and you can also be lucky to find a weapon inside a car you have stolen. You can steal any cars, both from the rivals and your own gang. You can not steal the cars when they are driving at full speed, so you have to do it when they slow down to go around corners. The objective is to gain 100% control of the city. You start at 20% and increasing by 1% each time you kill a rival, but if you are shot or hit by a car you will be brought to a hospital and go down 5%. Be aware that when your score remains very high, your rivals will come to attack you the moment you get out, so familiarise yourself with the nearest weapons and/or places where you can commandeer a vehicle to assist your escape. If your score reaches 0% it is Game Over. “Kill Frenzy” tasks can be obtained around the city, and if you succeed in these, you will be rewarded with extra firepower. You can get tasks like: Destroy 10 enemy vehicles, shoot 10 rivals, run over 10 rivals, blow up 10 rivals… There are also missions to be accomplished. To be given the missions, you will need to find the phones that are spread over the city. The city has an east and a west side, which is connected by a bridge. The bridge is closed until you get 60% control, and when you do this, it will be wise to steal a car and go sightseeing to locate the rivals mansion, because the closer you get to 100% the more aggressive the rivals will be with their firepower. The last thing you have to do is to drive the gang boss to the rivals mansion, so it is important you know where this is placed, because you will be under heavy enemy fire when doing this. There is a lot going on everywhere, with lots of cars and people moving around. The graphics is nice and detailed and there is plenty to do all the time, you do not have to seek the action, it will come to you. When you pass 70% things toughens up, and for your final mission, when driving the boss to the rivals mansion, there is no room for taking a wrong turn… RIVAL GANGS was released as participant in the ZX-DEV Media & Demakes 2021 competition, and this is an extended version of that game with new features: Over 20 missions New weapons and Kill Frenzies Greatly improved driver AI - more stealing cars, less getting squished! Unlock rewards by completing missions Multiple endings Map enhancements Improvements to NPC behaviours New loading screen by Davey "Sloanysoft" Sloan Redefinable controls AY music on title screen As you can see this walkthrough is the fastest way to do it, and the 2021 version ended after this, but now you will be given the choice to defect to other side and continue to play. Completing the game with both sides, finding all "Kill Frenzies" and completing all missions will affect the game ending. RIVAL GANGS EXT is pretty much what you can ask for, when talking a GRAND THEFT AUTO game for the ZX Spectrum. A very polished game with lots of objectives to fulfill.
