Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis said that an investigation has been ordered on the India Today Special Investigation report on the Panchayat officials selling public water and added that action will be taken against the guilty. All the district collectors have been ordered to keep a check on such activities. The India Today sting operation discovered an unholy racket of government officials selling water tankers for money in Beed district in Marathwada of Maharashtra, one of the worst drought hit districts.The two employees of the Panchayat have been suspended after India Today Special investigation exposed how corrupt government officials in drought hit Beed district diverted water meant for the poor to those who could pay for it. India Today sting operation reveals that the panchayat officials who were in charge of supplying water tankers have been selling water meant for dying citizens to private businessmen for profit. In the sting video the officers of the Panchayat Samithi,sell water to reporters posing as businessmen. The Beed district Collectors has also ordered departmental enquiry into the case. After the Beed district was hit by severe drought, government has swung into action in Beed to ensure that locals don't go thirsty as taps runs dry and wells went waterless and close to 800 water tankers have been supplying waters everyday to villagers in Beed. Maharashtra government has over the last fortnight send trains filled with water and tankers to the parched areas. The IPL has been moved out of Maharashtra by the courts.
