Chillstep is a popular genre's alternative name in the internet. The genre has been described as having influences from UK garage, dark swing, 2-step and trap, producing futuristic and often very off kilter modern rhythmic production styles. It has been observed as being better suited for home listening than UK garage. The name was coined by Whistla before the appearance of Future Garage Forum in November 2009.
