Fawn Sharp, President of Quinault Indian Nation and 1st Vice President of the National Congress of American Indians, discusses the origins of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), how enforcement of ICWA is falling short, and how the new ICWA regulations will help to hold states accountable for adhering to the spirit of the law in practice. She also shares her poignant personal story of how non-enforcement of ICWA impacted her quest to become an adoptive mother of Native children.
