Hydrodynamics of Wind Assisted Ships

In this video we demonstrate the experimental investigation of the impact of leeway angle on the propelled performance of the KCS container ship. These experiments will help understand how a ship's resistance and propulsion are affected by a leeway angle induced by the aerodynamic forces from a wind assist device such as a wing sail. The tests were conducted in the Boldrewood towing tank as part of the 'Winds of Change' Clean Maritime Demonstrator Project, providing a research led student lab for the module SESS6077 - Zero Carbon Ship Resistance and Propulsion.
