i was originally planning to use seething bazel swaxe with status trigger iframing for huge damage, but settled on amatsu again because i found better counter setups on certain patterns. like with the scorned run, my game plan was to hit 2 counters each boosted by 10% rather than iframing into one counter boosted by 20%. it's also easier to fit mind's eye on the amatsu set since i don't need status trigger, and with all of astalos' shitzones that 30% boost to white numbers is very strong. lastly, status trigger sucks in exhaust state, whilst amatsu swaxe lets me zsd into 10% boosted swb. unfortunately sneak attack doesn't work on the tail plug electric move and i don't get too many chances to counter the big flying tail sweep or the diagonal paralysis tail, otherwise it would have been worthwhile to invest in. his moveset when angry is really fun to play around, but exhaust state is cursed and scared me off doing this run initially. the countermeasure to it in this run was simply ccing him during exhaust states with the marionette spider and ride into ko. initially i thought it would be best to get the ride and ko in charged up state so i could spam morph loop on his charged crest, but the runs where i set that up were slower. this is probably because ccing him in exhaust state allows for better sustained dps, and fighting him normally when he's charged up gives a lot of dps anyway. even more cursed is that the qurio orb damage is crucial to getting a good time, and i started targeting orbs even when they were on shitzones since each additional 2.4k damage pop saves 5-10 seconds. this run and the scorned run weren't my cleanest attempts but ended up being the fastest because of these stupid qurio mechanics. this would've probably been a sub 5'30 if i didn't miss the counter on the head beam but i suspect that if i didn't hop back, my counter would've gone under his head and whiffed anyway. or maybe not wallrunning when trying to add waterblight to the starburst bugs would've been a better time save... music: devil may cry v - voltaic black knight
